Chatting With The Zoo Project’s Michael James
The Zoo Project Ibiza is back in Dubai March 8th at Nasimi Beach for the second installment of Channel Zoo. The Animal-tastic night out where anything goes as long as it roars! As a day to evening party The Zoo Project embraces its theme where you’ll find many great and many questionable interpretations of zebra’s basking in the sun alongside an array of artistic performers, dancers and stalls.
Micheal James is headlining the event alongside Sven Weisemann. Michael’s aim in life is simple; to seek good groove, direction and exceptional sound. His excellent track selection and 4/4 timing have earned him recognition at a very young age, with a deep and eclectic soundscape consisting of dub minimal, house and techno elements his sets whether rocking the seal pit in Ibiza or a Berlin back room his sets the dance floor alight. Here we catch up with Mr James on Dubai, music and more…
What have you been listening too lately?
All sorts – New music and old music, but always something with a raw,
analogue, old school feel.
Is this your first trip to Dubai? What are you expecting from the club scene here?
Yeah, it’s my first time and I’m really looking forward to it! I’ve
heard great things from the last Channel Zoo party we did in Dubai, so
I’m expecting a really good party with lots of friendly people who
want to have a good time!
Where do you see Djing in ten years time?
Good question! I try not to think that far into the future. I suppose
it’s wide open really. Obviously there are a lot of technological
advancements constantly being made within the industry, but these only
drive the die hards further in the opposite direction – looking to go
against the grain, and stand out from the masses. Hence the resurgence
of vinyl only labels and vinyl shops popping up. With all the new
gadgets and all the new technology deejaying has definitely become a
lot more accessible. I’d like to thing that this will encourage
deejays to strive to be their best, to play the best music, and to
really try and stand out.
Who are your biggest influences as a producer?
Kerri Chandler circa 1990′s, Todd Terry, Terrence Parker, Demarkus Lewis, Mr. G
Are you a DJ who produces or a producer who DJ’s?
I’m definitely a DJ that produces. I’ve been deejaying and collecting
music for a lot longer than I’ve been making music. I love making
music, but deejaying was definitely where it all started for me.
