Moodymann For Electric Chill

Our DJ mate Garethisonit recently put together a review for the guys over at INfusion mag, if you’ve missed it then we’ve posted a copy for you here. You can also check out Gareth’s tunes on his soundcloud page

“So ever since I started buying vinyl, the name Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jnr) was always one of those producers you never really knew much about, but somehow felt a somehow unspoken quality. Touted as one of house music’s biggest enigmas, he refuses interview, rarely appears in magazines and rarely leaves his home town. Yet his legend has traveled the world. Kind of like the Loch Ness monster… just switch Loch Ness for Detroit.

To be honest, I was a little worried about how his set would go down with the Dubai crowd, even myself (who has 3 albums and a couple of 12’s) didn’t know what to expect. But as soon as he got on the decks there was a vibe that got everyone on the dance floor from the off. (Seeing some dude covered in a hoody and yellow shades playing vinyl probably intrigued half of the club). What followed was one of the finest sets I’d heard in years, effortlessly moving through Detroit techno, soul, house, disco, boogie and back. Switching tempos but never loosing the floor, with a mystique modern dj’s haven’t even thought of. But let’s not categorise this, we are talking about a different breed of artist, from a different kind of place. As KDJ says “I’m not into this to play the latest big records in your club, I’m into this for my own heart and soul”.
