Dorian Paic Superhero :: An Interview

We have a Cocoon Hero in the house and he’s no stranger to this town. The ‘quiet riot’ himself – Mr. Dorian Paic! Welcome to sunny, let me rephrase that, very sunny Dubai. Since the summer is laced with super hero action we thought we’d ask our own version of the ‘theme’ with a few questions before your gig at Trilogy’s Electric Studio this Friday, May 25th.

Since it’s all anyone can talk about, tell us more about Cocoon Heroes and your association with it?

Cocoon Heroes so far is the best campaign that Cocoon did in my opinion. If you look at the artwork of most of the other parties in Ibiza it is either pretty ugly, or just showing some hot girls or in the worst case a bit of both. A lot of promoters also just drop the big names and then that’s it.

The idea behind Cocoon heroes is to feature all people that participate in creating the party. From the doormen, to the DJ, to the bar staff to the ravers, because the perfect combination of all these ingredients help to create the perfect moment. Also it is a lot more personal and also interactive than just putting a few names and nice girls on a flyer!

The mobile photo booths are working pretty well and the people love it when they get their photos taken and they are even happier then when they find them online somewhere. That’s how people are these days, it’s all about Facebook, pictures, party snap shots etc – this gets people excited.

What was your first impression of Dubai when you last played here?

Dubai is very unique. Everything is so big. The tallest building in the world, the biggest shopping mall, the biggest indoor ski resort in the world, it is all about superlatives. Besides that you find some of the most outstanding hotels in the world so it is definitely worth a travel.

You’re about to collaborate with local label One28 Recordings. Will you be doing an original for them or will it be a remix offering?

I think it will be a remix as I am quite busy in other projects myself or also in collaboration with some friends so I won’t have the time to finish a whole EP on my own unfortunately.

What’s 2012/13 looking like in your camp? Any developments you’d like us to know about?

The most important thing of course is for me as an artist that I am slowly but steady increasing my output as a producer. As for the gigs I have played at Timewarp again earlier this year that was quite impressive, I will be playing at Love Family Park again this year, besides that I will also be playing again 2 gigs on the terrace of Amnesia for Cocoon during summer. These are definitely some of my personal highlights as a DJ. 2013 will start with a big holiday – that is for sure!

Having been here before how would you rank Dubai in clubland?

Like I said before I think Dubai is unique – you cannot compare it with any situation in Europe. Of course going out in Dubai is different from going out in Berlin or London for example. In general I think it is good and also important to see all the different sides of clubbing so again I have to admit : Dubai is definitely worth a visit.
